Driver held after fatal collision

A TRUCK driver was arrested yesterday for questioning after a horror smash in which a 31-year-old man died.

The young man, who was driving a Toyota four-wheel-drive, was killed in the collision with an articulated lorry.

A UK national was driving the truck on the main Cork-Limerick Road. The crash happened shortly before 7am at Ballybeg outside Buttevant, Co Cork. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the road was closed by gardai.

The lorry driver sustained minor injuries in the collision and was taken to Mallow General Hospital for treatment.

He was later discharged but was then arrested by gardai for questioning in connection with suspected dangerous driving.

Gardai have asked witnesses to contact them at (022) 21105.
