A motorist died after his car hit a horse in Kilmeaden

A motorist has died after his car hit a horse.

The animal was also killed in the collision just before 2am on Monday on the N25 Cork to Waterford road at Ballyduff East, Kilmeaden.

Gardai said the 42-year-old driver was seriously injured and taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The road remains closed for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.

Gardai in Tramore are investigating.
