Driver (24) killed after crashing into wall

A MAN has died after the car he was driving struck a wall.

Gardai are appealing for information after the driver, named locally as Gerard Kelly (24), from Mauricetown Upper, Ashford, Ballagh, Co Limerick, was killed when his car collided with a wall at Killaculleen Templeglantine, Co Limerick, on Thursday afternoon.

The collision occurred on the R515, approximately four miles outside Abbeyfeale, at about 4pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and was the only occupant of the car.

Meanwhile, a man who died after being struck by a car on a dual carriageway has been named locally as Peter Fitzgerald, who was from the north Cork town of Watergrasshill.

Mr Fitzgerald (68) was hit by a car on the South Ring dual carriageway in Cork city before 7pm on thursday evening.

The accident occurred 250 metres from the Sarsfield Road roundabout.

He was apparently walking against heavy traffic on the road when the incident occurred.
