Driver (21) killed in collision

A YOUNG man died after he crashed his car into a wall.

Gardai last night appealed for witnesses to the fatal crash in Carrigaline, Co Cork, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 21-year-old victim, who was named locally as Stephen Allen of Calderwood, Douglas, Cork, died when his Honda Integra crashed into a wall in the Carr's Hill area of Carrigaline at around 3am.

A male front-seat passenger, who is also 21, was being treated at Cork University Hospital (CUH) last night. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The dead man's remains were taken to CUH where he was formally identified by members of his family. A post-mortem examination was due to be carried out yesterday.

This latest fatality brings to 30 the number of people who have been killed on our roads so far this year.
