Drive-by suspects face new charges

Two men who were questioned by gardai about the drive-by shooting of innocent teenager Stephen Hynes are to appear in court this morning on unrelated charges.

The two suspects were kept in garda custody for 48 hours in connection with the shotgun attack on Stephen, who was not the intended target and has no involvement in criminality.

They were released without charge from Crumlin and Sundrive Road garda stations in Dublin's south city last night.

But both of them were immediately re-arrested as they were wanted on warrants in connection with separate offences.

Both were taken to Cloverhill Prison in west Dublin to be held overnight and then taken before the district court this morning.

Garda enquiries into the drive-by shooting in Crumlin are continuing and a file will then be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will determine if criminal charges should be brought.

Stephen is recovering in hospital after being shot in the back.
