Drive to attract students from Vietnam here

The Government is promoting Ireland as an education destination for Vietnamese university students.

On a visit to Hanoi, Junior Trade Minister Joe Costello said: "I want to encourage connections between Vietnam and Ireland and want to see more Vietnamese students come to study in Ireland."

Just two dozen Vietnamese students are currently enrolled in universities here.

In New Zealand, a similar-sized country to Ireland, the number of Vietnamese students has risen from 184 in 2000 to 1,517 in 2009, and Vietnam is ranked 13th among countries of full fee-paying international students there.
