POPULAR angling spots including the River Drowes, Lough Melvin and Lough Erne are threatened by plans to extract shale gas from beneath the surface using the controversial drilling process known as fracking, a protest has been told.
A motorcade of more than 60 boats passed through Enniskillen in Fermanagh to highlight concerns about the impact that hydraulic fracturing would have on fish stocks.
The move comes as the Environmental Protection Agency is due to begin a scientific study on the risks and benefits of employing the technology here.
Anti-fracking group Love Leitrim said the protest highlighted the battle the Government would have if it goes ahead with plans to allow fracking take place here.
"We are proud to be able to support those fishermen's clubs who initiated this," spokesman Eddie Mitchell said.
