Brown Thomas stores nationwide have officially launched their Christmas shops a full four months before the jolly man in the red suit is due to come down your chimney.

Each store transformed a dedicated space into a festive market yesterday, complete with Christmas trees and trimmings, decorations, crackers and food.

Christmas market buyer Edel Woods said BT's decision to start selling Christmas-themed products in August is not unusual.

"We always open at this time of year. It's always around the middle of August, but this year we're open about two or three days earlier than last
year."

Santa's grotto and gift wrapping services in aid of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) are due
to open closer to Christmas.
