Couples can book a romantic candlelit dinner for two in Macaris Takeaway in Glasnevin and enjoy the Italian cuisine on offer.

The family-run chipper received such a big response for Friday that the owners have decided to run a raffle to decide which loved-up couples will get a table.

‘‘We were blown away when we realised how many people were interested,’’ Denisa Molle, whose Italian parents run the takeaway said.

‘‘We have a much bigger floor space now so we can fit about 9 tables in.

‘‘We’re going to do a raffle to decide who gets a table, the meal will be totally free and it will be a fun memory for customers,’’ she said.

The family are thinking of closing the shop down for the evening to treat their romantic customers.

‘‘We were thinking about what can we do that’s quirky and different and it wasn’t supposed to be a joke, just something fun,’’ she said.

The chipper sparked an online buzz with people jumping at the chance for a Valentine’s Day with a twist.

‘‘With restaurant business on the up you may find it difficult to reserve a table for your loved one this Valentine’s day in your favourite restaurant,’’ the takeaway told customers.

‘‘Macaris to the rescue. We are putting together our 25 years of experience of friendly service & fresh food.

The table will be presented with ruby red table cloth along with roses, candles and a luscious box of chocolates.

It won’t be just the traditional fresh cod and chips on offer for the most romantic date on the calendar.

The family’s Italian matriarch will be cooking some delicious Italian dishes.

‘‘Mama will be preparing some of her best kept Italian recipes, wines will be from our family vineyard from the hills of Rome and music will be provided by Italian legend Toto Cotugno,’’ the takeaway promised.

Italian pop singer Toto Cotugno won the 1990 Eurovision with his hit song 'L'Italiano (The Italian).

‘‘Don't miss out on this magical evening,’’ it added.

The chipper told customers planning to book for Friday that spaces are limited and to email ValentinesDay@macaris.ie for more info.

‘‘This sounds like a really down to earth romantic evening. For all age groups. I hope d evening is a wonderful success,’’ customer Tina Black commented.

The takeaway also offered those interested a chance to win a €40 Macaris Voucher and a bottle of Italian Wine.

The chipper has been serving the needs of Ballymun, Glasnevin, Drumcondra and DCU students for 25 years.
