Dramatic fusion to bring international tango festival to close with a flourish
THE ninth Dublin International Tango Festival wraps up tonight at 8.30pm in the NCH with Quinteto Tango Extremo's dramatic and eclectic fusion of traditional tango with classical music jazz and folk. The festival celebrates one of the world's great dances through live music and performance, as well as cultural events and food tasting.
King of pop spectacular on the way
THRILLER Live, the spectacular concert created to celebrate the career of Michael Jackson, is coming to Ireland. The concert is directed by Gary Lloyd and brings to life the sensational dancing and distinctive sound of the world's greatest entertainer -- from his early days with the Jackson Five right up to his record-breaking solo career.
This high-octane concert, which celebrates the career of the undisputed King of Pop, runs at Grand Canal Theatre, Dublin, September 19 to 24. Tickets prices from €20.
'Love Songs for Losers' and a pint
GUTSY Productions presents Love Songs for Losers, an unmissable theatrical event in this year's Absolut Fringe. Kicking off on September 12, Love Songs for Losers will run nightly downstairs at The Stag's Head.
Set in a backstreet bar, this confessional play combines theatre, karaoke and storytelling. "Hit the bar then settle in for a night of shameless voyeurism, melancholy mischief and big, ball-busting ballads," say the organisers.
Written and directed by Ruth McGowan, it is produced by Sinead O'Brien and features Sonya O'Donoghue, Neil Fleming, Klara McDonnell, Ann Marie O'Donovan, Ben Reynolds and Diana O'Connor. Love Songs for Losers is at the Stag's Head, Dublin, from September 12-15 and September 19-22 at 7.30pm.
Jazz legends to play the NCH

Dixieland stars in benefit session
DES Hopkins and his Band present An Evening of Dixieland Jazz at the Village Inn, Clane, Co Kildare, on Monday, September 5.
The session, to aid the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, will feature Chris Barber, trumpet star Mike 'Magic' Henry, and some members of the Barber and Bilk bands who will remain in Ireland after their NCH show.

Concert to mark anniversary of 9/11
A SPECIAL commemorative concert to mark the 10th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 will be staged by Enchiriadis Treis, a Dublin-based adult choir, on Sunday, September 11.
The event, 9/11: Ireland Remembers, will be held in the Convention Centre Dublin from 4-6pm and includes a programme of poignant and moving music, presented by Ireland's Enchiriadis Treis Choir accompanied by the National Philharmonic Orchestra and will be joined on stage by a choir from USA.
Nights at the opera to aid charities
FOR the fourth year in succession, Burren House proudly presents Mozart's Impresario and Pagliacci (sung in English) operas on September 3, while on September 4 there is an evening of opera classics with the Chorus of Opera Cork and the City of Cork Male Voice Choir joined by international soloists.
All proceeds go to Marymount Hospice, Cork, Cork Simon Community, Clonakilty Lions Club and local schools. Car parking is available on the grounds of Burren House for all events.
