Drain murder arrest

A 20-year-old is due before Portlaoise District Court today in connection with the murder of Christy Daly.

He is one of two men who were arrested on February 19. The body of Christy Daly (47) was found in a drain outside Clara, Co Offaly, on January 7

Another man, Ross Allen (23) of Kilmonaghan Lodge, Clara, was also arrested and charged with Mr Daly's murder last Friday.

NO €7M LOTTO WINNER

THERE was no winner of last night's €7m Lotto draw. The prize is now heading for €7.5m. The numbers drawn were 9, 13, 27, 28, 34, 39 and the bonus number was 40.

There was one winner of the Lotto Plus 1 draw. The numbers drawn were 10, 17, 22, 28, 32, 39 and the bonus number was 5. There was no winner of the Lotto Plus 2 draw. The numbers drawn were 1, 9, 16, 24, 35, 38 and the bonus was 44.

CASES THROWN OUT

A DISTRICT court judge threw out almost 20 parking cases after declaring the court room was not fit for purpose.

Nineteen cases were struck out by Judge Eugene O'Kelly at a recent sitting of Parking Court in Limerick after a woman tripped over a broken chair and hit her head.

VW CADDY RECALLED

VOLKSWAGEN has issued a recall of one of its commercial vehicle models.

It recalled 589,000 of its Caddy models worldwide that were built between November 2003 and January 2013. The company said gas-pressure dampers on the tailgates of the Caddy model range may become detached.

FILM OF RODMAN'S TRIP

BASKETBALL star Denis Rodman's trip to North Korea – with broadcaster Matt Cooper – will be made into a film with 20th Century Fox. "They are going to do a movie of what happened in January," Cooper said.
