Dr Miriam celebrates new award
RTE 'Prime Time' presenter Miriam O'Callaghan has been awarded an honourary doctor of letters degree (DLitt) from the University of Ulster in Derry, for her work as a journalist.
"Humanity and compassion are the central elements of her journalism," said Prof Deirdre Heenan.
"Miriam is known and respected right across the island of Ireland because of her hard-earned experience, sheer professionalism and an innate integrity that underpins her journalism."
The award follows a distinguished career that began as a researcher at Thames Television in London before moving to 'Newsnight' on BBC, and then RTE.
Dedicating her award to her hero, Derry native John Hume, Dr O'Callaghan said: "Many, many people worked to bring about peace in this part of the world, but without John Hume, peace would never have happened.
She posed for pictures as a new doctor with her mum, also called Miriam, right.
