Donors step up to aid Brolly's GAA friend

THREE people have stepped forward to offer their kidneys to GAA coach Shane Finnegan after a kidney donated by Joe Brolly had to be removed.

All-Ireland-winning footballer Joe Brolly (pictured) said a number of people had offered to help his friend as he spoke of the devastation he felt when his donation failed last month.

Mr Finnegan, a 40-year-old father, received Mr Brolly's kidney during an operation in London on October 3, but it had to be removed nine days later.

Brolly spoke of the "miserable finale" of hearing the donation had failed "after something that had been so exultant".

"It's a miserable situation for me but for Shane it was (particularly) agonising," he said.

"The clock is ticking. If things take a turn for the worse, as they inevitably will, the situation can't continue as it is indefinitely," Brolly added.
