Officers stopped and searched the van as it was disembarking from a ferry that had arrived into Dublin from Holyhead.

The search was the result of routine profiling. The dog uncovered 4kg of herbal cannabis, with a potential street value of more than €40,000.

The driver, an Irishman in his 40s, was arrested and was being questioned last night at Store Street Garda Station.
