DUP deputy leader Nigel Dodds is a hot favourite with the bookies to become the new First Minister in Northern Ireland some time this year.

Betting on the post has been introduced by the Paddy Power firm as a result of the controversy surrounding the current First Minister, Peter Robinson and his wife, Iris.

Mr Dodds is favourite at 6-5, followed in the betting by East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson at 9-4 and Edwin Poots at 3-1.

Outsiders include Robin Newton at 10-1, Jeffrey Donaldson and Nelson McCausland at 12-1 and Arlene Foster at 16-1.

Paddy Power is offering odds of 1-2 that a new First Minister will be in place before the end of the year and 6-4 against.
