Independent.ie reporters

The UK based discount store Poundland is to open six shops in Ireland creating 180 jobs over the next six months.

The company, which says it could open up to 50 shops here, will call the shops Dealz.

Unlike the UK the retailer said its price format will be ‘adapted’ for its European outlets allowing greated flexibility on price.

Poundland sells well known brands and its own brands across a wide range of products. It says it will sell locally sourced Irish milk, eggs and crisps here.

The company has 347 shops in the UK and its first four Irish stores will open by early October with two more to follow by March in both Dublin and Cork.

Private equity firm Warburg Pincus took a 75% stake in Poundland in a £200m deal last year.
