HOLLYWOOD actor Danny DeVito revealed he is on the search for a young Irish actress for his latest film.
The 'Taxi' star had originally lined up Saoirse Ronan to play the 13-year-old lead in film 'The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle', which stars Pierce Brosnan and Morgan Freeman.
However, a delay in shooting meant the young Carlow girl has now blossomed into a young woman of 18, and is too grown up for the part.
"Saoirse was always my pick but now she's a woman, I'm back to square one, and on the search for a new Charlotte Doyle.
"It's tough because I'm a year away from filming, and I have to find a young actress with the same kind of talent as Saoirse," DeVito told the Irish Independent.
It was 1950s Los Angeles the Italian-American star found himself in last night when he took part in a special screening of 1997 movie 'LA Confidential' at the Mansion House.
Staged as part of the Jameson Dublin Film Festival, the screening included a Q & A with the actor, who played Sid Hudgens, publisher of the scandal sheet 'Hush Hush' in the cult movie.
Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actor DeVito is a regular visitor to Ireland, where he said he had "relatives the length and breadth".
DeVito will also be presented with the VOLTA, the Dublin Film Festival achievement award, during his trip.
