Defence Forces in mock rescue

The Defence Forces played a key role in a big international maritime rescue exercise off the French coast during the week.

The scenario centred on a passenger ferry stricken by a major fire as it travelled from Rosslare to Roscoff.

The aim of the exercise was to test response procedures and interaction between European maritime countries for a mass rescue operation at sea.

The operation was conducted under the auspices of the North Atlantic Coastguard Forum.
