Debris from faulty tyre forces Dublin Airport runway to shut

Pat Flynn

THE main runway at the country's largest airport had to be closed for almost an hour on Saturday after being strewn with debris from a disintegrating tyre on a Ryanair jet.

Flight FR1958 to Nice left Dublin's runway 10 at 3.02pm, but during take-off the crew detected an abnormality with the aircraft's nose wheel.

The crew of the next departing aircraft narrowly missed the shredded tyre parts and quickly raised the alarm.

Runway 10 was closed and all arriving and departing aircraft were moved to runway 16. The runway opened again shortly after 4pm.
