GARDAI are treating the deaths of two homeless people whose bodies were pulled from the Grand Canal in Dublin over the weekend as a tragic accident.
Wendy Atkinson (30), originally from Tallaght, Dublin, and Robert Sneedon (29), originally from Whitehall in Dublin, were found in the canal at Inchicore on Saturday afternoon by a passer-by.
Post-mortems were performed at the city morgue in Marino yesterday. The official results are not yet available but it is understood they died from drowning.
The victims were found by the passer-by at Suir Road near the Luas bridge, an area well known as a spot where homeless people sought shelter.
The scene was preserved and the Garda Technical Bureau and the State Pathologist attended.
Gardai at Kevin Street are investigating and have asked anyone with information to contact them at 01 6669400.
