Death of former TD and Senator Sean Keegan

FORMER Fianna Fail TD Sean Keegan (right) has died after a short illness.

Mr Keegan (80) was first elected to the Dail in the Longford-Westmeath constituency in 1977, with his surplus votes helping to elect Albert Reynolds, also for the first time.

Mr Keegan was re-elected to the Dail in 1981 and was a member of the Oireachtas for 12 years, including seven years as a Senator. A close friend of former Taoiseach Charles J Haughey, he also served on Westmeath Co Council.

A farmer in Killard, Kilbeggan, Mr Keegan also served on the Midland Health Board. he is survived by his wife Mary, and children Gearoid, Tom, Nan, Marie and Nuala.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed. JASON O'BRIEN
