De Rossa's son in care following charge of assault
A SON of MEP Proinsias De Rossa is in the Central Mental Hospital today after appearing in court charged with assaulting his father.
Concerns over the mental health of Fearghal De Rossa (45) were raised when he was brought before Cloverhill District Court.
Mr De Rossa Jnr, with an address at Old Finglas Road, Dublin, was charged with assault causing harm to his father. He is alleged to have assaulted the 71-year-old in Dublin last Friday.
The Labour MEP and former Minister for Social Welfare was not in court yesterday.
Mr De Rossa Jnr had been held in Cloverhill Prison in west Dublin after being arrested and was brought before the Bridewell District Court last Saturday.
His lawyer yesterday told the court an issue had arisen in relation to his mental health and he was seeking an admission order for two weeks for assessment.
Dr Conor O'Neill told Judge David McHugh that Mr De Rossa Jnr had been assessed by two doctors at the Central Mental Hospital.
The court heard a bed would be immediately available. Judge McHugh admitted Mr De Rossa Jnr to the facility and adjourned the case until December 2.
