D'Arcy's next step
PROUD Kildare man Ray D'Arcy yesterday performed his first official function as tourism ambassador for his county.
The local boy made a special appearance at St Brigid's Cathedral and the Round Tower in Kildare town in preparation for the annual St Brigid's Festival.
"I have always been a proud Kildare man, and for a long time have felt that as a county we have undersold ourselves. Particularly since we are situated on Dublin's doorstep, there is such an enormous opportunity to gain from this proximity. Likewise the county has so much to offer and relatively very little is known about the county as a whole," he said, on the eve of St Brigid's Day.
As tourism ambassador, the 47-year-old Today FM DJ, who hails from Kildare town, will take on duties which include performing the voiceover for a national radio campaign, as well as personal appearances to promote the county in a new marketing programme.
