A FATHER of two has died following a fall from a motorbike while on a family holiday in Italy.
Christopher Dowd, who was in his early 30s and from Drogheda, Co Louth, had been on a life-support machine since the accident on the second day of his holiday in Pisa.
He had travelled to the north-Italian town with his wife Siobhan and their two daughters Amy and Niamh.
Mr Dowd was in a critical condition after the fall from the motorcycle, which happened in wet conditions last weekend.
Locals were shocked by the accident and prayers were said for him and his family at the Holy Family Church in Drogheda on Sunday.
Mr Dowd succumbed to his head injuries yesterday and died in hospital, with his wife Siobhan and other family members by his side.
His brother Brian, who brought his two daughters back to Ireland earlier this week, told a local newspaper: "He just crashed on a wet part of the road."
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs said that they were providing full consular assistance to the Dowd family.
