HE was just another anxious parent watching his son in action. The Ireland coach Joe Schmidt took time out from preparations for Saturday's crunch clash with Wales to cheer on his son Tim as he lined out for his school.

Tim Schmidt turned out for Terenure College as they took on St Michael's in the first round of the Beauchamps Leinster Schools Senior Cup.

The Ireland coach cast his expert eye over the performance by the young scrum-half and his team-mates, who lost 17-13.

Schmidt chatted to spectators and took calls on his mobile while watching the action in Templeogue.

The New Zealand-born coach has a busy schedule this week as he sweats on the return of inspirational captain Paul O'Connell for the crucial Six Nations match against Wales at the Aviva Stadium.
