A man has died in Co. Mayo following a road accident outside Ballyhaunis in Co. Mayo this morning.

Gardaí at Swinford are investigating the collision in which a male cyclist in his late 40's has died on the Ballaghadreen Road, Classaghroe, about a mile outside Ballyhaunis. the cyclist collided with a car at approx 11.45am today.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene has been removed to the morgue in Castlebar where a post-mortem is due to take place.

The driver of the car was taken to Mayo General with non-life threatening injuries.

The road is currently closed for forensic collision investigations. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Swinford Garda Station on 094-9252990.
