Cyclist dies near home in car collision

A CYCLIST has become the latest person to die on the country's roads.

Stanley Rountree (55) was cycling at Balrath, around a kilometre outside of Drumconrath, Co Meath, when he was involved in an accident with a car.

The incident occurred close to Mr Rountree's home, and he was taken to Our Lady's Hospital, Navan.

He was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car was uninjured in the smash.

The incident happened around 5pm on Wednesday.

Mr Rountree is mourned by his brother John and his sister Shirley, who lives in Canada.

So far this year 153 people have lost their lives on the roads, with 13 less people killed so far this year compared with last year.
