Cut in travel tax not on horizon
THE government has indicated the remaining €3 travel tax on flights will not be scrapped.
Transport Minister Leo Varadkar said he would announce the decision on the future of the charge within the next two weeks.
The previous reduction in the tax -- from €10 to €3 -- has not brought about a large increase in passenger numbers, he said yesterday.
Discussions are ongoing between the Department of Transport and airlines, which claim the tax impacts on tourism.
