Customs swoop on cigarettes

MORE than €80,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes and tobacco has been seized by customs in series of swoops.

Yesterday, Revenue Commissioners at Cork Airport seized over 14,000 cigarettes, with a retail value of €6,130.

In a separate operation, officers seized 9,500 cigarettes and tobacco in Carrigaline, Co Cork, valued at €5,000.

Meanwhile, customs officials at Cork Airport seized 17,400 cigarettes on Thursday, with a retail value of €7,237. Cork customs officials also seized 80,000 cigarettes and 75kg of tobacco at a private dwelling. That seizure had a total retail value of €62,175.
