Customs seize 88,000 cigarettes from inner-city unit
Customs officers have seized a substantial haul of illegal cigarettes and roll-your-own tobacco after raiding a lock-up premises.
Officers found 88,000 cigarettes and 69kg of tobacco when they searched the unit in Dublin's north inner city yesterday.
A man in his 60s was questioned about the find. After follow-up inquiries have been completed, a file will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine if there should be criminal charges.
The seized goods had an estimated retail value of €65,000 and represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €55,000.
