Customs officers have seized €45,000 from three suspected associates of Dublin gang leader Freddie Thompson as they were about to board a flight to Amsterdam.
The three, all in their early 30s, were stopped and searched by officers at Dublin Airport and were found to be carrying €15,000 each.
The cash was seized in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 2005.
During routine checks of passengers about to board an earlier flight to Amsterdam, officers stopped a 28-year-old Irish man and found €7,760 on his person and a further €4,000 concealed in his carry-on luggage.
In Dublin District Court yesterday, Judge Patricia McNamara gave permission to the officers to hold on to the money for three months to allow them to carry out further inquiries.
