CSO investigates early release of data on Twitter
THE Central Statistics Office (CSO) has carried out a review of how crucial data was released early via Twitter and said it was satisfied that there would not be a repeat of the incident.
The state statistical service was forced to release retail sales data days ahead of schedule on Friday evening after material being prepared for release this week was unintentionally put out on Twitter.
A spokesman said that the CSO was 100pc satisfied the early release of the material was "totally inadvertent" and was the result of a technical glitch.
The retail sales figures showed a disappointing dip in consumer spending, with the value of goods sold falling by 1.1pc in June.
This figure excluded car sales, which were boosted by the government scrappage scheme.
