THE Central Statistics Office (CSO) is seeking to take on 5,500 temporary staff in what will be the country's biggest recruitment drive this year.
The jobs are all connected with carrying out Ireland's next census of population which is scheduled for April next year and involve the delivery and collection of census forms to every household in the country.
The CSO said there had been a strong response already with over 600 applications flooding in online within hours of the recruitment process opening yesterday for 440 of the jobs.
This round of recruitment is aimed at filling field supervisor positions which are for a fixed six-month period with the supervisors working from their own homes across the country.
Applicants have until 5pm on Friday September 24 to apply for these positions which attracts pay of around €500 per week, plus allowances and bonuses worth over €1,100.
CSO spokesman Pat Flynn said they were pleased with the strong interest shown so far.
The CSO will then move to recruit 5,000 census enumerators who will work for 10 weeks starting in March, with the application process for these posts starting in December.
