Cruise ships can dock in new port

MAJOR cruise ships are set to sail into Dun Laoghaire harbour next year as part of the redevelopment of Dun Laoghaire harbour.

Gerry Dunne, CEO of the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company, said the semi-state body hopes to proceed with a number of projects at the 200-year-old site in 2012, including "welcoming cruise ships".

Other plans for the site include creating "an urban beach" and building a 5,000-square-metre Irish International Diaspora Centre on the historic Carlisle Pier.
