Criminal dies after May shooting
A convicted criminal shot almost seven weeks ago after being questioned by gardai over another gangland-style shooting has died.
Karl Wynne, of Russell Court, Russell Square, Tallaght - once known as "the Loan Ranger" for carrying out an armed hold-up on a building society - was shot outside a shopping centre on May 30.
The 45-year-old unemployed single father was shot several times as he sat on a wall outside the busy St Dominic's Shopping Centre off Mountain Park Road.
Detectives renewed their appeal for information on a black motorcycle with a rider and passenger wearing dark clothing in the area at the time of the attack, about 9.30pm on Thursday May 30.
The pillion passenger fired several times from a handgun in the attack.
In the days before his death, Wynne had been questioned about the attempted murder of gym owner Sean Enright on May 15.
Mr Enright was shot at his Universal Warrior gym, on Ballybogan Business Park in Finglas, north Dublin.
At the time gardai said Wynne, who was originally from Finglas and had a number of convictions, had been known to them for a "considerable period of time".
Mr Wynne was jailed for seven years in 1999 for holding up the EBS building society in Cork and making off in a taxi.
He had been charged with a number of other robberies, including a hair salon and a pharmacy.
