Probe launched after gardaí allegedly involved in Temple Bar bottle smash brawl

A Garda Ombudsman investigation has been launched after five men, including a number of gardaí, became embroiled in an altercation.

The Garda Síochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) have appealed witnesses to a Public Order Incident in Temple Bar, Dublin in the early hours of Sunday morning..

A spokesperson said the incident, involving approximately five males, occurred outside Gallagher’s Boxty House on Fleet Street, Temple Bar at around 1.30am.

A press releases from GSOC stated that bottles were smashed and thrown and an altercation took place.

The incident was referred to GSOC under section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act, 2005, which provides for independent investigation of “any matter that appears to indicate that the conduct of a member of the Garda Síochána may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person”.

A spokeswoman was unable to confirm if the officers were on or off-duty at the time of the alleged incident.

GSOC is requesting anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have information that may be of assistance to the investigation, to contact it on 1890 600 800.
