In the Dáil yesterday, Ms McDonald said the video "serves absolutely no useful purpose" and asked Taoiseach Enda Kenny to back her request for it to be removed.

"As you can understand, people in the area are extremely distressed.

"It has come to their attention that media outlets, such as the 'Irish Times', Irish Independent, the 'Mirror' and others, have footage of the fatal attack of Gareth Hutch up online," the Dublin Central TD said.

She added: "It has created increased stress and distress in the community."

In response, Mr Kenny said that he had not seen the footage but noted that the media now respond "instantaneously" to events such as the murder.
