Man arrested and gun seized after gardaí receive chilling 999 call

A man was arrrested and a firearm seized after an alarming call to 999 emergency services on Saturday evening.

Independent.ie has learned that a male contacted emergency services to say that there was a man sitting at the home in the Old Tower area of Clondalkin armed with a weapon and ammunition.

It is understood that the suspect claimed he was going to do "something" if gardaí didn't arrive.

Armed units were deployed to the home in Clondalkin where they discovered a man with a firearm and a silencer sitting on the table in front of him.

Approximately 35 rounds of ammunition were also found on the table.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí responded to a call in the Old Tower area of Clondalkin at 4.45pm.

"Gardaí entered the premises where they recovered a firearm and ammunition."

A man, in his late 40s, was detained in Ronanstown Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State act.
