Man arrested and cannabis seized during routine garda checkpoint

Gardaí in Wicklow have arrested a man after they discovered three large bags of cannabis worth €60,000.

Officers had been conducting a routine speed check on the M11 at Ashford on Thursday evening when they stopped a black Ford Focus car.

After a subsequent search of the vehicle, it was seized by gardaí.

The man, described as being in his late 40’s, is currently being detained at Wicklow Garda Station under Section 2 of Drug Trafficking Act.

A person can be held for up to seven days under the Act.
