Anthony 'Pride of Dublin' Fitzgerald (30) and another man suffered knife injuries in an altercation outside a bookmakers on Parnell Street.

Both men were taken to separate hospitals following the incident and they are being treated for non life threatening injuries.

The altercation broke out at 2.45pm and gardaí say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Fitzgerald was one of the boxers in attendance at the Regency Hotel when gunmen burst in last February and shot dead Kinahan cartel member David Byrne.

In recent years he  had been boxing out of the MGM gym in Marbella, which is run by Daniel Kinahan, son of cartel boss Christy Kinahan Snr.

However, he also has a long history with Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch, and is a cousin of the family.

Fitzgerald, a former Irish, European and Intercontinental super middleweight champion, learned to box at Hutch’s gym in Dublin’s north-inner city.

He announced his retirement from the sport earlier this year.
