Gardaí seize €56k heroin after car chase in North Dublin

Gardaí have struck a significant blow against a North Dublin drugs gang after they seized heroin worth over €56,000 in a car.

Officers in Ballymun attempted to intercept a car shortly after 6.30pm on Tuesday as part of an intelligence led operation into the sale and supply of drugs in the area.

However the vehicle failed to stop and gardaí followed it to the Pairc Na Cuillean in Poppintree. At the cul de sac the occupants abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Gardaí later discovered a substance, believed to be heroin, in the blue Audi A4. The drugs have an an approximate street value of €56,000, subject to analysis.

Independent.ie has learned that gardaí are confident of making arrests in relation to the case in the coming days.

Gardaí in the area have carried out a recent clamp down on the sale and supply of drugs in the Ballymun area. Cocaine, heroin and cannabis have all been seized over the past eight weeks.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí in Ballymun seized heroin (subject to analysis) with an estimated street value of up to €56,000 after searching a car in the Pairc Na Cuillean area at approximately 7pm last night.

"The car was earlier observed driving at speed near Bulbutcher lane. No arrests have been made and an investigation on-going."
