Gardaí carry out dawn raids on Kinahan cartel
Gardaí carried out dawn raids on homes in Dublin's south inner city and Tallaght in an operation against the Kinahan cartel.
The raids, which were carried out as part of Operation Thistle, started at 6.30am yesterday.
Gardaí and members of the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) searched a number of homes and they arrested a man. A large quantity of documentation was seized and a small amount of controlled drugs.
In total, six properties were searched in the swoop.
A 34-year-old man was arrested in relation to theft. He was detained at Pearse Street Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
These raids were part of an ongoing operation targeting middle and lower-ranking members of the Kinahan cartel in Dublin.
This was the fourth such swoop on south inner city gangs in recent months.
The operation came a day after gardaí unveiled the new armed support unit to tackle feuding gangs in the city. The 55-strong, highly trained and resourced unit will be deployed in response to firearms-related and other critical incidents.
