Female employee threatened with handgun at filling station by man who demanded cash

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with a robbery at a filling station in Kildare.

The incident took place on Thursday, July 28, shortly before 7pm at a filling station on the Carlow Road in Athy.

The man entered the shop alone, where he brandished a handgun and threatened a female staff member.

He demanded cash, and fled the scene on foot after the staff member provided an unknown sum.

Gardaí investigating the incident arrested the man on Saturday morning in the Athy area.

He is currently being held in Newbridge Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
