Around €3,800 worth of beer, vodka and cigarettes has been discovered by Revenue Officers hidden in compartments under a truck.

The contraband goods were seized after officers found it in a vehicle which had travelled to Dublin Port via Holyhead on Friday.

Two Polish men, aged in their 30s, have been questioned in connection with the haul and investigations are ongoing.

It is believed that the goods were going to be delivered to various locations across Ireland.

The smuggled goods represent a potential loss of around €2,900 to the Exchequer.

The seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing crackdown on the illegal importation, sale and supply of tobacco and alcohol in the black market.

Anyone with any information about the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco is urged to contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
