Cream of crop to be shown at Film Fleadh

Brian McDonald

FIONNULA Flanagan has broken one of her golden rules.

The veteran actress almost never comments on a new movie unless she has first viewed it. But yesterday – the opening day of the Galway Film Fleadh – was different.

Her latest film 'Tasting Menu' last night opened the 25th anniversary of the festival and she was not hiding her enthusiasm for the romantic comedy, even though she had only seen snatches of the footage.

"From a personal point of view it was the happiest shoot I ever worked on," she said.

Over the next six days a vast array of Irish, European and world film premieres will be held as part of the programme.

Zachary Quinto, who plays Dr Spock in 'Star Trek: Into the Darkness' will conduct an actors' masterclass and host two Q&A sessions.

Actress Saoirse Ronan will be the special guest of the Fleadh and will be the subject of a public interview.

President Higgins will attend the closing ceremony and awards presentation next Sunday.
