Crash victim has €235,000 damages award slashed

A WOMAN passenger who initially received €235,000 damages for a car accident in which the driver died, has had her award cut in half.

Jade Price, who was seriously injured in the accident, was probably not wearing a seat belt and knew, or should have known, that the driver, mother-of-four Mary Connors (24), had consumed excessive alcohol before driving the car, Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O'Neill found.

The car crashed into a tree in Tallaght, Dublin, in May 2010.

Given those findings, the judge found 55pc contributory negligence by Ms Price and reduced a €235,000 damages award by 55pc to €100,579.
