Crash puts grilling of aide on hold

THE head of a government department was unable to answer questions from the Dail's spending watchdog yesterday -- because he was hospitalised after a car crash.

Department of Enterprise secretary general Sean Gorman had been due to face questions about "misleading" evidence he had given about a €115m business training programme.

But the Dail's Public Accounts committee heard that he could not turn up because he required hospital treatment and X-rays.

Committee chairman Fine Gael TD Bernard Allen said: "We will consider whether we should have Mr Gorman here as soon as he is fit to deal with the issues raised by the committee."
