Gary Miller (24) was riding the bike at Homelawn Gardens in Tallaght, Dublin, when it skidded and collided with a pole at 7.30pm on Saturday.

The single man, from Avonbeg in Tallaght, was treated at the scene by a nurse who lived in the vicinity before being taken by ambulance to hospital. He died shortly after arrival.

His father, Gary Snr, who was embraced by a local man as he stood at the scene of the tragedy, has said he was deeply shocked by what happened to his son.

"I haven't slept since it happened," said the grieving father.

"He loved bikes and cars and had lots of friends," he said.
