Crafty plan to boost cottage industry

A CAMPAIGN to boost sales of Irish craft goods began yesterday. The drive by the Crafts Council of Ireland is also being supported by a series of special 'craft months' in various counties.

The first Cork Craft Month features 200 different groups including ceramicists, jewellers, textile-workers, furniture-makers, wood turners, paper and felt makers, sculptors and others. The programme includes special exhibitions at centres including Blarney Castle and Ballymaloe House.

Gardai hurt after patrol car rammed

TWO gardai were injured early yesterday when a patrol car was forced off a road. The officers were treated for minor injuries after the incident, which took place at around 1.30am at Friarstown, Crecora, Co Limerick.

They spotted an Alfa Romeo car being driven dangerously in Adare where it failed to stop at a checkpoint. They followed the vehicle to Crecora where their squad car was then rammed. Garda are now searching for the driver of the Alfa Romeo.
