Youth faces trial over attempted garda car ramming

A DUBLIN youth is to stand trial accused of trying to ram a garda vehicle with a stolen car.

The Children's Court heard today that the car had been stolen from Kilmartin Gardens, in Tallaght, Dublin, on January 2 last year.

It was alleged that the then 17-year-old boy led gardai on short chase during which he did a handbrake turn and aimed the stolen car at a garda vehicle.

However, he did not hit the gardai Judge Ann Ryan was told.

She held that the now 18-year-old's case was too serious to be dealt with in the juvenile court and should go to the Circuit Court which has wider sentencing powers.

The teenager, who has not yet entered a plea to the motor theft charge, was remanded on bail to appear again in August when he is to be served with a book of evidence.
